According to a EU SILC survey, in 2020 6.9% of the population of 27 EU countries faced challenges to keep their homes warm (for info on this survey: http://bit.ly/3yDqqhZ). This is close to 31.000.000 persons! Can you imagine what the result of the rising energy prices over the last 1,5 years is?
In many countries, the government has come to the rescue with schemes and support packages. In addition, huge amounts are being invested in future projects for the generation of sustainable energy.
But many do not realise that providing hot water has become an increasingly important part in the costs for energy. And this while there are simple techniques that reduce the energy consumption for providing hot water. Here are some of them:
- Reduce your time under the shower. 1 minute less saves about 10% on your energy usage for showering (when standard is 9 minutes)
- Reduce your water temperature. A 1°C lower temperature saves about 3-3.5% on your energy usage for showering (when standard is 39°C)
- Reduce the frequency of your shower routine. Taking 1 shower less per week saves about 14% on your energy usage for showering (when standard is 1 shower per day)
However, as a developer and manufacturer of energy saving shower systems we know that it is very hard to change your shower routine. For example: in the past decades the time we spend taking a shower has grown significantly. Many of us see their time in the bathroom as “me-time” and a time for relaxation.
The largest effect can be achieved by using modern techniques for reducing the energy consumption for providing hot water. One of them is Waste Water Heat Recovery (WWHR) from shower water. With this technique it is possible to reuse more than 75% of the energy in the shower waste water. This results in more than 50% savings on your energy usage for showering!
The big advantage of these types of solutions is that they are readily available and therefore generate immediate results. They can be installed in all homes, regardless of the year of construction. Every home equipped with such a system will benefit from it year after year. This provides a significantly lower risk of energy poverty, lower dependence on fossil fuels, lower CO2 emissions, etc.
